Anthony mapping project

Check out the Storymap created from all of the information they collected about their community! Keep in mind, some of the photos that participants collected are no longer accessible due to updates on the database where they were stored.

In summer of 2015, we kicked off our first social equity mapping project, where young people from the Anthony Youth Farm and from La Semilla Community Farm joined together to explore Anthony, New Mexico. They decided themselves to observe public gathering areas, food access, and vacant properties. After hearing the youth share their observations, the Anthony Board of Trustees voted to prioritize parks in their 2015 CIP request to the legislature, which resulted in the state granting funding to the Town for that purpose.

As part of the Social Equity Mapping project in Anthony, mappers decided to observe habits of their community surrounding food. Mappers documented what was sold at grocery stores, and interviewed clerks and community members.

Mappers asked clerks questions like where does the store get their fruits and vegetables? What are the buy/sell rates? How many customers come in, and what do they buy? What is your most popular produce?
These questions helped mappers understand how their community interacts with food.
